By Manda Banda Published: March 16, 2010

Xtreme XTGPS/NS-50

The model tested was the XTGPS/NS-50, which has a five inch TFT touch screen panel and comes with Arabic support. The first thing that strikes you about this device is its sleek and compact design.

The device offers a high-sensitivity GPS receiver that operates in 30 channels accompanied by a Multi-Language OSD Menu. Users will find it easy to navigate with key features like turn-by-turn driving directions, an enhanced POI database and easy-to-enter postcodes, city and address search.

Powered by Mireo’s Black Edition software, the XTGPS/NS-50 is also equipped with an SD/MMC card expansion slot for additional map loading, an MP3/MP4 multi-media system, picture and document viewer, and Bluetooth functionality.

The device is available in black, grey, blue and red, and has an internal 64 MB SD RAM and a 512 MB Internal ROM, and support MP3, WMA audio files and AVI, MP4, Mpeg, ASF, ASX, WMV, 3GP video playback. As expected, a 2.5mm mini jack slot is included for headphone use.

The device is responsive and very accurate, which is the key for a GPS navigation system. The rechargeable 1450mAh lithium-poly battery also seemed adequate for the device, which is powered by a SiRF Atlas 3 CPU at 372 MHz.

Here’s the best part, the 4.3 inch XTGPS/NS-43 is priced at just AED899 while the XTGPS/NS-50 is going for AED 1,299. Without doubt these are two value for money products that will take you places, literally.
